And in terms of hype, NVIDIA is pulling out all the stops. It's GeForce Special Event countdown is highlighting 21 years of GeForce - starting with the GeForce 256 which launched back in 1999. The event, taking place September 2 at 2AM AEST, is where many believe the next-generation of Ampere GeForce RTX graphics (like the rumoured RTX 3080) will be officially announced.

Plus, showing a star go supernova. That ain't subtle.

The event will also feature an address by NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang -- which adds even more hype to this being the big RTX 2.0 reveal. And a sweet leather jacket no doubt. As for specifics, nothing is official, but rumours are pointing to a mid-September launch for whatever it is NVIDIA feels is worthy of labeling the next step in graphics. A bold move, so we're expecting big things.

In the meantime though, NVIDIA is taking a trip down memory lane.

Ahh the memories.
