Nintendo's latest home console, the Switch, is available now for $469.95. The new console, which also doubles as a portable device is probably Nintendo's most interesting hardware release in a decade. And coming alongside the launch is the release of the long-anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (also released today for the Wii U), and the party-game collection 1-2 Switch.
At launch, the Nintendo Switch focuses primarily on one thing -- games. And with its minimal and sleek UI, it offers up a clean, fast, and impressive new way to play. In regards to the screen, although it's 720p (going up to 1080p when docked), it's clearly Nintendo's most impressive bit of tech yet, offering up bright colours and a fast response time.
But, it's not all perfect. As for some reason the system re-introduces the archaic Friend Code system for adding people you know. But, that will change once full online features are added. And outside of Zelda, the launch line-up seems a little light on depth. But, as Zelda has so far been one of the best reviewed games of this or any decade, that's not really a problem. Especially when Nintendo is going to great lengths to ensure that the rest of 2017 sees a wide variety of new releases for the Switch. Including Mario Kart, Splatoon, Super Mario Odyssey, Arms, and more.
With midnight launches happening all across the country, did you go out and grab one? And if so, what are your impressions so far?
