Alongside worldwide sales for the Nintendo Switch now sitting at around 35 million. Which is definitely impressive. Although hitting 10 million Nintendo Switch Online subscribers is certainly a notable milestone the online service from Nintendo doesn't feel as integral to the console as say Sony's PlayStation Plus is to PS4 and Microsoft's Xbox Live is to Xbox One.

That said, Nintendo's offering is far cheaper than the competition with pricing more in-line with its mostly basic online service and access to a library of 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System games to play.

The milestone announcement came as part of the 79th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders for Nintendo Co., Ltd. Where as part of a Q&A session Nintendo's Shuntaro Furukawa (Representative Director and President), notes that in relation to its online service there's room for improvement. "We believe that we need to further enrich these sorts of services in the future," he states. "We want the Nintendo Switch business to continue for as long as possible, and to this end, we will not only release a continuous stream of exciting titles, but also work to enhance our digital content and network services like Nintendo Switch Online."

In the rest of the conversation, Shigeru Miyamoto also responds to a question about VR and cloud-based gaming saying that Nintendo isn't falling behind in these departments, just simply not pursuing them as quickly as others. "Because we don't publicize this until we release a product," he adds. "It may look like we're falling behind." From there he confirms that Nintendo is fully aware of the benefits of both technologies.
