On Friday we got our first proper look at Nintendo's next console, the Switch. And on Saturday, thanks to Nintendo Australia, we got the chance to go hands on with the console and play a number of the games coming in 2017. Cough, Zelda looks incredible, cough and, err, one more cough. We'll have our full impressions later today but in the mean time click though for the launch date, price, and list of games coming for the Nintendo Switch.
Right, so the official global launch date for the Nintendo Switch is
March 3, 2017. Which, is right around the corner. That means Australians will be be some of the first consumers in the world to get their hands on the console come launch. In Australia the price-point for the Switch is
$469.95, and for that price you'll get the following.
One of the big features of the Switch, in addition to it being a tablet-console hybrid are the new Joy-Con controllers. Which, as you can see below pack some impressive tech for their size.
In addition to the console a number of accessories will be sold, and in the case of another pair of Joy-Cons they will be available for the fairly steep $119.95. A Xbox and PS4 style Pro Controller will also be available for $99.95.
The hardware itself comes with 32GB of internal storage with a Micro SDXD Card expansion of up to 2TB of additional storage. But it's worth noting that a 2TB Micro SDXD Card is an expensive proposition. Also a hypothetical one as they don't really exist yet. The Switch also has a USB-C connector that will allow you to play-and-charge whilst on the go, which helps when battery life on the console is said to range from 2.5 to 6.5 hours.
Now, this is all well and good. So you're probably thinking to yourself, "What about the games?" On March 3 the Nintendo Switch will launch alongside 5 games, which are: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 1-2-Switch, Super Bomberman R, Skylanders Imaginators, and Just Dance 2017. Prices will vary, with the mini-game package 1-2-Switch retailing for $69.95 RRP and Zelda at $89.95 RRP.
