With the recent
Nintendo Switch Lite announcement, many were left wondering if the regular
Nintendo Switch might be getting its own revision - perhaps a Pro model. Well, this isn't that but
Nintendo has confirmed that the current Nintendo Switch is getting a hardware refresh later this year. One that ups the battery life.
To almost double the potential playtime.
With Nintendo noting that it's going up to 4.5 to 9 hours on a single charge from the current model's 2.5 to 6.5 hours. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a game that pushes the hardware, is used as an example - with 5.5 hours of play on the revised model versus 3.0 hours of play on the current Switch.
This info comes from the Nintendo U.S. site which notes that the only differentiator will be a new serial number beginning with "XKW". According to reports it's expected that this new version of the Switch will contain an updated NVIDIA’s Tegra X1 chip in addition to newer flash memory modules. In order to almost double the battery life its safe to say that the will be some changes underneath the hood.
The new model is expected to hit shelves sometime in August in the U.S. and September in the UK, though we're unsure as to when we can expect it locally.
