According to the Wall Street Journal the deal is very closed to being signed for a new animated Super Mario Bros. movie from Universal Animation, the studio behind the Minion movies and others. For those wondering why we haven't gotten a new Mario film, one only needs to look at 1993's Super Mario Brothers travesty.

A film that is almost unwatchable. And only becomes so after you make yourself aware of the behind the scenes drama that surrounded the production.

The below analysis by The Gaming Historian is a must watch.



It makes a lot of sense that over twenty years have passed for Nintendo to become comfortable with the idea of another Mario cinematic release.
