Nintendo today confirmed that certain Amiibo figurines from the company's first roll out of the NFC-powered figurines are to be discontinued, with Nintendo focusing on the big sellers instead.

"We will aim for certain amiibo to always be available. These will be for our most popular characters like Mario and Link," offered a spokesperson in a statement sent to Wired. "Due to shelf space constraints, other figures likely will not return to the market once they have sold through their initial shipment."

Nintendo has not confirmed which figurines will be facing the chopping block, though we can probably expect the less popular ones like Marth from Fire Emblem, Wii Fit Trainer and Villager from Animal Crossing to feel the shelf wrath. Of course, Nintendo hasn't specifically ruled out any future iterations of those cut back in production, so we may just see demand push the company.

Have you joined the Amiibo craze? Let us know in the comments on your thoughts with Nintendo's latest lineup of figurines.

1. Create artificial rarity by discontinuing figures with cult popularity
2. Complain about resale of these figures to garner sympathy
3. Re-release these figures "due to popular demand" at a premium price tag
4. Die of a cocaine overdose on a mountain of money and hookers

^ This.

Also Ninty had better release more GameCube adaptors for the Wii U. Latest I heard was that these are super rare and they may not make these anymore. And I haven't got one yet :'(

I figured the GameCube adaptor would be a very small production run, that's why I made sure to get 2 of them before Smash Bros released.

EB Games keep saying that Nintendo are only bundling it with Super Smash Bros and you can't actually buy on their own.

People who bought bulk and are selling them on Ebay are f*** wits too

That's true. The only way to buy it alone is direct from Nintendo, and they've run out of stock.

Seen what some of these are going for on Ebay? Crazy!!
Villager currently @ $65.00 & Marth @ $61.00, I have both and unopened. Only managed to get Princess Zelda and Luigi from series 2

I'm sure I saw the villager @ JB for $17.00 the other day.
