Nintendo's investory briefing is currently underway for the fiscal year, and the company has today revealed a new NFC product making its way to the Wii U and 3DS.
Details are still light on exactly what the product will entail, though company president Satoru Iwata stated that more will be shown at E3 2014 in June. According to analyst
David Gibson, the NFC figurines will work with both platforms, with the 3DS getting an
external infrared device. The product lineup is being called "NFP", which presumably stands for Nintendo Field Platform but more will hopefully be known soon. As
GameInformer points out, there has only been one title that utilises the NFC capabilities of the Wii U GamePad: Pokemon Rumble U.
Gibson notes that a Mario figurine was shown at the briefing, with reports that the product has been in development
since 2013, and Nintendo is planning to show multiple titles off at E3. One thing is for sure, this could be a really smart move by Nintendo considering how profitable both Disney Infinity and Skylanders are for Disney and Activision respectively. My wallet is ready.
