Today a new patch for the rocky (yet very good) Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was made available across all platforms with various fixes for each. As noted in our review experience, we had some dips in frame-rate but overall it was a solid and bug-free run, however, we and EA and Respawn are aware that it hasn't been all gravy for everyone.

The current patch will see consoles first in delivery, with a PC patch a bit later this week. This is what's in store:
  • (PC only) Updated occlusion behavior for raytracing, reducing idle time stalls.
  • (PC only) Updated streaming budgets that will help alleviate traversal hitching.
  • (PC only) Performance improvements for some VFX. (Coming soon to console.)
  • (PC only) Updated data handling when toggling raytracing, improving non-raytraced performance.
  • (PS5 only) Fixed an HDR value mismatch that would cause HDR setups to display incorrectly for PS5 users.
  • Fixed various save state errors.
  • Fixed a streaming issue that causes some streaming scenarios to end on a black screen.
  • Fixed an issue where one of the vents did not properly activate in Stone Spires.
  • Audio fix for a narrative moment where music was behaving incorrectly.
  • Fixed lightsaber marks not displaying correctly in some scenarios.
  • Fixed an elevator to prevent the player from falling through it and entering a progression blocked state.
  • Fixed a bug where Rayvis would become unbeatable.
  • Fixed a severe animation issue that would break a late game narrative sequence.
  • Fixed a collision bug where players can get stuck inside a Meditation Chamber.
  • Added a note explaining that some of BD-1’s abilities are not available while in combat.
  • Improved text scrolling.
  • Minor text translation fixes.
  • Various crash fixes.
Additionally, here are a few known issues the team is currently investigating and working on for future patches.
  • (PC only) Improving performance on newer i7 and i9 CPUs that have efficiency cores.
  • (PC only) General performance improvements to improve both CPU and GPU utilization while reducing idle time, both with and without raytracing.
  • (PC only) Improving some hitching which can be attributed to streaming raytracing data, assets, and a gap in our prebuilt shaders.
  • Various bug fixes.
As we wrote in our review (again, a much sturdier experience than post-launch), Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is "slightly outlier in its foundational universe and in its pedigree and influences. It’s a mish-mash that somehow makes a whole, but for anyone keen on what that means, I can only say saddle up and enjoy the ride".

Hopefully these incoming fixes make the experience for you as good as it was for us. Stay tuned for more as we have it.

We originally presented our thoughts on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as a 'review in progress', largely because the game is so, well... large.

Additional time was definitely needed which also afforded us a chance to see how it played in a post-release state and we're glad we took the extra real-estate.

Here's a snippet:
Of course, as you might have heard in a lot of post-launch chatter, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the game out in the immediate wild. Our review was split between early access to PS5 and then jumping onto Xbox Series X|S to just look at the differences, and in the pre-release aspect of the game on Sony’s deck, it was good. Certain parts of different worlds stuttered here and there, but it wasn’t until the Day-Zero patch that things went awry. Performance dipped and it was definitely crying out for some more love. But on Xbox Series X|S it’s been mostly solid (we only got the Series X|S code in retail post-launch form, so no idea on the differences prior).

But it will be fixed.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a very big game. It has a lot of ground (and galaxy) to cover and it is a densely layered world with rich lore, history and ideas for the future of Star Wars. It's also a step above its predecessor without doing quite enough to elevate it to all new heights. At least not yet, based on what we've managed to play...

Hence this being a 'review in progress' meaning we'll be sharing our final thoughts after more time with it in the very, very near future. But for now, a snippet:
Yet for all its eye-candy and scale, Coruscant is just a blip on the radar. Beyond these opening Star Wars-punk moments, which also highlight some of the game’s immediate pitfalls, is an action-RPG disguised as an action-adventure game. It might seem like semantics, but once you get to the larger mass of Koboh, the game’s second destination and one you need to venture too, a world small galaxy of side-quests and hidden goodies lies in wait. A sandbox riddled with secret paths and environmental puzzles to solve and exploit and even some archaeology to perform. Heck, you can even wrangle yourself a mount here, because… why not?

Debuting at the recently-wrapped Star Wars Celebration that took place in London, Respawn's hotly anticipated sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, has wowed Star Warsophiles with a new and final gameplay trailer. And we can't wait for the game at this point.

The story of Cal Kestis continues in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, an epic new adventure that will push Cal further than ever as he fights to protect the galaxy from descending into darkness.

If I had to leverage a negative against a handful of the early Disney+ Star Wars stories, it's that too many of them took place on Tatooine or other already familiar locales. Star Wars is a huge universe with unknown planets and species and cultures just waiting to be explored and expanded upon. And today it looks like that's exactly what we're going to be getting with the forthcoming Star Wars Jedi: Survivor sequel from Respawn Entertainment and EA.

The dark times are closing in as Cal Kestis seeks out a safe haven far from the reach of the Empire. Five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a more mature Cal Kestis must look beyond his lightsaber to find his destiny in the shadow of the Empire. Familiar friends and new allies - Cere Junda (Debra Wilson), Greez Dritus (Daniel Roebuck), Merrin (Tina Ivlev), and the newly introduced mercenary Bode Akuna (Noshir Dalal) - stand by Cal’s side against the Empire and galaxy’s most ruthless foes. Cal’s quest will take him to new planets and familiar frontiers in the Star Wars galaxy, including Koboh, which is the home of the Bedlam Raiders.
Coming only for PC and next-gen machines, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor also looks stunning and infinitely playable for its visual spin on the Star Wars universe.

We took exception to a number of gameplay elements with the first game, but we also lauded its story, visuals, score and its characters -- all of which appear to be intact for the sequel. Here's hoping they've addressed some of the other issues to potentially deliver one of the better Star Wars gaming experiences.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor releases this April 28 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

EA and Respawn have decided to delay the release of the highly anticipated Star War Jedi: Survivor to April 28 - a month or so from the original March 17, 2023 date for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Respawn confirms that the game is "content complete" but needs more time for polish.

"We are now focused entirely on the final stage [of development]," Star Wars Jedi: Survivor director Stig Asmussen writes. "Bug fixes to enhance performance, stability, polish, and most importantly, the player experience."

Adding, "Making this game has truly made us a better team, and we have pushed ourselves at every level to make this the Star Wars sequel our fans expect from Respawn and Lucasfilm Ganmes."

You can read the full statement below.

Oh, and in case you need a reminder that this sequel is going to ramp up the visuals and gameplay, check out the official reveal from late last year. Dual-wielding, mounts, and more, it's going to be epic.

The follow-up to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, just got an impressive gameplay-filled reveal trailer at The Game Awards. Plus, a release date of March 17, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. And it looks bigger and more impressive in every way.

Visually it's stunning and cinematic in a way we rarely see for Star Wars games. Not only that but the environments and scope of the next chapter in the Star Wars Jedi story looks huge. Dual-wielding, mounts, and more.

Picking up five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Jedi: Survivor is a third person, narrative-driven action-adventure game from Respawn Entertainment, developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC.

Continue Cal’s Journey – No longer a Padawan, Cal has come into his own and grown into a powerful Jedi Knight. Carrying the memories and expectations of the Jedi Order with him, his crusade against the Empire has only become more perilous. The Dark Times are closing in - with enemies new and familiar surrounding him, Cal will need to decide how far he’s willing to go to save those closest to him.

Go Beyond Your Training – The cinematic combat system returns with additional Force abilities and new lightsaber fighting styles. Creatively leverage all these skills to strategically take on an expanded host of enemies, sizing up strengths and weaknesses while cleverly utilizing your training to overcome your opponents and solve the mysteries that lay in your path.

Explore an Untamed Galaxy – Discover new planets and familiar frontiers in the Star Wars galaxy, each with unique biomes, challenges, and enemies. Master new skills, equipment, and abilities that will augment the ways you explore, fight, and roam. With larger areas to explore and more to discover off the beaten path, players who adventure beyond the horizon will find hidden rewards.

Coming out in March means development is pretty much done, and we don't have to wait too long to play this one.

Besides the awards themselves, one of the major highlights of every The Game Awards showing is the sheer number of trailers, deep-dives and everyone's favourite "World Premier"s that take place, and this year is looking stacked.

Respawn Entertainment and EA will be a part of that showcase, revealing today that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be unveiled in full at the show, while also sharing off some cool new art for the game.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor picks up five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Cal Kestis has remained one step ahead of the Empire’s constant pursuit as he begins to feel the weight of being one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy. In order to survive, Cal must evolve as a Jedi, learning new skills and growing his connection with the Force.

And with a teaser trailer to boot. Sequel to the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place some five years after the events of Fallen Order and is being built from the ground up for next-gen hardware with a broad 2023 release window.

The trailer doesn't give us a lot, though it is a bit spoilerish if you haven't finished the first game (so hurry up and get on that). Here's some official info via press release as well:
Developed by the veteran team at Respawn under the leadership of game director Stig Asmussen, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will expand upon the iconic Star Wars stories, worlds, characters, and thrilling combat first experienced in the series’ debut title, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is being built for the current generation of gaming hardware to create a deeper and more expansive Star Wars experience for players worldwide when the game launches in 2023.
“Even before completing Jedi: Fallen Order, our team had a vision of how to carry the adventure for Cal, BD, and the crew into the sequel,” said Stig Asmussen, game director, Respawn. “For Jedi: Survivor, we are working in lockstep with Lucasfilm Games to build on the legacy of Jedi: Fallen Order. We’re leveraging advanced technology to create more dynamic Jedi combat and cinematic storytelling to expand on Cal’s story as he matures and survives during the dark times. We can’t wait to share more about the game with the world later this year.”

The first game was filled to the brim with great Star Wars moments, characters and storytelling, but fell a bit short in a number of areas, such as combat, difficulty balance, AI and hopelessly poor platforming, which we hope are addressed in full in the sequel.
