And that is an utterly charming RPG along the lines of the GameCube's wonderful Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - but with a number of interesting changes. Firstly there's origami aesthetic of the title, but what stood out for us in this deep dive into the upcoming Nintendo Switch release of Paper Mario: The Origami King is all the fourth-wall breaking.
In that bosses include tape dispensers, stationary equipment, and other real-world objects. At its core the Paper Mario series has always been a comedic one - and this looks to be just that, with a wonderfully rich and detailed world and cast of characters. Check it out.
Outside of the gorgeous visuals the biggest gameplay change looks to be the ring-based battle system, something that is explained in the video above but even after watching it a couple of times it feels like something you'll need to play to properly "get". Nintendo's track-record with the series and accessibility (from a pick-up and play perspective) is peerless so we have no doubt it'll work and make sense in the long-run.
Paper Mario: The Origami King is right around the corner too, releasing on July 17 for the Nintendo Switch.
