According to a new report over at Eurogamer, "work is underway on a brand new, big-budget Fable game". Great news for sure, but the kicker is that apparently Forza Horizon developers Playground Games are at the helm of this Fable reboot.

In terms of confirmation from Microsoft we shouldn't hold our breath - word is that it's still quite early on in the production cycle. With the new team (separate to fine folks who work on the Forza Horizon series) said to still be in the staffing-up phase, growing from under 100 people to over 200.

So what does this mean for Fable? If all of the above is true we can probably expect to see something late 2019 at the earliest, because as per the reports this will very much be in line with the series' tradition of creating large open-world story-driven action-RPG experiences.

After the launch of the Xbox One X many have called Microsoft's first and second-party line-up severely lacking when compared directly to Sony's. It's no secret that in recent months Microsoft has stated that it will be investing more in large exclusive titles. Which this new Fable would definitely fit the bill.

Driving through Horizon open-worlds always had me wondering what Playground could do with an on-foot open-world, action-adventure or RPG of their own, so this is good news. Hopefully they use their own engine and just optimise it for this.

Question is, will there be Molyneux?
