Called 3dSen it's a rarity in that it's an NES emulator currently being sold on Steam - with the goal being to allow people to play backups (as in illegal ROMs) of 8-bit Nintendo games in 3D. Using a similar effect seen in Nintendo's own 3DS 8-bit re-releases. Only about 70 games of the NES's massive game library are supported so far, and the emulator is listed as still in Early Access.

The effect is impressive though - as highlighted in this Super Mario Bros. playthrough.

Of course, Nintendo's stance on emulators and the usage of ROMs is very clear. "Emulators developed to play illegally copied Nintendo software promote piracy," Nintendo's policy states. "That's like asking why doesn't Nintendo legitimize piracy. It doesn't make any business sense. It's that simple and not open to debate."

A VR version of this is also available, and with RetroArch planning a Steam release it'll be interesting to see how this all pans out. And if Nintendo take any action to stop its release.
