Over the weekend, if you follow us on the Facebooks, you may have seen a link to a mysterious site called The Survivor 2299 featuring a recurring Morse Code message and a countdown in a very familiar font.

The Internet, obviously, exploded with speculation, and we're cautiously on board for this speculative work, which suggests this is a Fallout series-related teaser site to some sort of reveal, potentially even Fallout 4. Game Informer did some snooping and has warned people to tread carefully because the site's breadcrumb trail of where it came from and who it's hosted by, is not in line with how Bethesda usually does business, but we'd also like to point out that, as a teaser site, it would make more sense to not do things the way they normally would.

Either way, the Morse Code message simply repeats the date 12-11-13 and has a persistent countdown to that day, so we'll hopefully know more then.

If this is Fallout 4 though, what would you like to see Bethesda do with it? What next-gen and PC features should be included?

I said this on our FB page, but the Pip-Boy stuff could make for a great companion app feature if this is Fallout 4, and if ANYTHING like that could happen, a collector's edition featuring a life-size wrist housing for a moile device to run the app would be awesome. Otherwise, I really want to see more diverse animals/mutations and dynamic weather

Well If there is a Fallout 4, hopefully it is Van Buren. Sadly it wont be, so I hope at least they've retained most of the team that did Fallout: New Vegas (Not Fallout 3). As that game mostly hit what Fallout is all about.

Please don't be a MMO..

There's no way they'd do a Fallout MMO with TESO about to launch, that would be a logistical nightmare for one, and two they'd probably be biting into their own potential audience across both, who will only play one

Fallout with updated Skyrim engine would be awesome; I would love a 4 player Co-Op feature like Borderlands I get so lonely in the Fallout/Elder Scrolls universe

Indeed it would. The dude that does the Three Dog voice actor hinted over twitter about Fallout 4 back in January, and then again yesterday. :-D

Also, re Van Buren - there's been concept art and notes published over the years, a lot of the content they'd planned for it ended up in Fallout NV though.

Co-incidentally, I've gone back to check out the the F:NV dlc at the moment that I missed on first release.
Great stuff, DM was a little tedious though.

Honest Hearts 7/10
Dead Money 5/10
Old World Blues 9/10
Lonesome Road 8/10 (so far)

Unlike probably most people, I'd like to see a squad based tactical rpg like Fallout Tactics make a come back. It isn't unforeseeable either, as evidenced by XCOM: Enemy Unknown. There's obviously a market for the genre. I don't know that fans of Fallout 3/NV would approve, but we old timers might. I would for sure.

Fallout Tactics is awesome I remember playing it a LANs back in the day, I still fire this game up now and then.

Hell yeah, I'd buy that. The XCOM expansion is high up on the play list.
I was looking forward to the recent Jagged Alliance installments (Back in Action/Crossfire) as well, but the reviews said they were somewhat poor to average. :(

I doubt Bethesda Game Studios would work on something like that. I'd say it'll be in the same vein as Skyrim, NV and Fallout 3. With that much heritage, there's a hopeful chance they get it pretty spot-on. But I'm in the minority in here I think, because I actually really loved Fallout 3

Fallout 3 was okay, but the writing was garbage. Hot wet garbage. I hope they give Obsidian another crack at it once Fallout 4 has been out for a while.

I also really enjoyed Fallout 3, I need to find some time to play through New Vegas as everyone raves about it.

Would love a Fallout 4 - where can the story go though?

I thought Fallout 3 was terrible, it felt very linear, kind of empty (lol wasteland) poor writing and just didn't have that charm Fallout 1&2 had, NV was so much better. It really does show you how much the designers behind the game influence a game.

Fallout Tactics could have been excellent but it was just too light, lacking depth. I would like to see a remade version of it with the sort of depth Jagged Alliance series had.

I don't really see how you could call Fallout 3 linear when you weren't locked into anywhere in the wasteland but your current level. New Vegas actually locked you out of various areas through clever tricks with unscalable mountain faces or Deathclaw farms where you'd get ripped to shreds until you went and did other stuff to be able to get past. Fallout 3 was super open and had far-reaching results to certain decisions such as blowing up Megaton.

And Bethesda Game Studios games aren't really about the main story as far as writing goes, it's how you craft your own story based on the character you become through the decisions, with consequences, you made.

Well perhaps your right there. I felt that for the most part my options were limited in Fallout 3 compared to NV. I like games that lock you out of areas/story based on actions you have taken and so forth, makes the game feel more reactive. NV felt way more reactive then Fallout 3.

In the end though, I disliked Fallout 3 and enjoyed NV, so I hope fallout 4 will be more like NV then F3.

I have wasteland 2 coming up, that can be my new Fallout hehe. I'm a rabbid Fallout 1&2 fan, I cannot be pleased.

Fallout 3 had those awful piles of rubble in the city that looked jump-overable but weren't. And it is entirely possible to go straight north from Goodsprings, you just need mad cazador and deathclaw avoidin' skills.

What NV did have was well-written morally grey characters. Did you ever listen to Ceasar's full conversation tree? This is a man whose organisation runs female rape slave camps and crucifies people for fun, ye still manages to rationalise his actions in the context of a video game. F3 had a mission given by SOME EVIL GUY where you either NUKE THE TOWN FULL OF CIVILIANS or YOU DON'T. The quests in NV have so many different ways to finish them. Check out Beyond the Beef as an example (spoilers obviously but it's a mid-game mission with little story consequence if you have't played it). It's not an isolated example - the design philosophy of Obsidian was to design the missions with the mindset of the player having complete obedience, murdering the quest giver as soon as conversation ends, and everything in between. At the end of F3, the super-mutant won't enter the radioactive area despite the fact it is completely safe for him to do so because it is 'your destiny'.

I could really go on. As I said, I liked F3, I clocked about 90 hours up on it. I was never compelled to play a second character though because a) the binary good/evil nature of the game's writing bored me and b) there wasn't much variety in the character builds of the game. There is pretty much no build which is unviable in NV whereas F3 you really need to have some weapons skill to get by. From the little I tried of melee and unarmed they seemed pretty useless but I don't really know for sure.

Anyway I only go on like this because NV is one of my favourite games and I sometimes get the impression a lot of people skipped it because they mistakenly thought it was just more F3. It isn't, it's so much more.

edit: Toll I think it might have been you who sent me a Fallout 2 CD years ago. I actually played it (nice and slowly) all the way up to the oilrig base but all my saves corrupted and I can't bring myself to start again because I had heaps of nice stuff :(

Yes, character variety is/was a hall mark of Fallout 1&2. A character that could shoot really well? Check, what about one that was an awesome with his talking? Check, What about one that is super intelligent pacifist? Check, What about a guy who was super strong but can't shoot and is really, really dumb? Check. And so on.

I did a run with a science/doctor/speech guy without touching a single combat skill. Every single mission was completeable without killing anyone except for a couple (the fiend killing bounties you get from Camp McCarran come to mind).

The DLC was all top notch too. Honest Hearts was a little short maybe.

This is the only part that's makes me sad about Fallout:NV...(in a good way I guess)
I've played it a couple of times now and I know at some point that I'm going to make a choice between NCR, Legion, Mr House or Yes Man and that will lock off certain bits of content so I tend to delay making the choice for as long as possible.
I just wanna see & do it all, restoring a save point feels scummy!

It's simply not possible to see everything in one playthrough without creative use of quicksaves and quickloads. Just play through it again with a new character except pick all the opposite skills as last time and make different choices to last time in the quests. It's almost a completely new game with how different they can go.

I preferred 3 to nv myself.
Somebody mentioned jagged alliance, I think that may be a humble weekly deal, if it's steal on it may be cheap enough for a buy and see.

I've yet to play more than an hour into F:NV, I cleared the town 'Prism or Primm' can't remember exactly how it's spelt, When I was driving from Vegas to LA this year I drove through that exact town which had the Rollercoast and Casino etc so I'm keen to get back into F:NV but just tied up with Dragon Age at the moment.
