Series mainstay Raiden is the latest character to be revealed for the next edition of the long running fighting franchise in Mortal Kombat X, with a two minute gameplay trailer now online by way of the Evo 2014 tournament and IGN.
The clip sees Earth Realm's thunder god smacking around newcomer Kotal Kahn. IGN spoke with MK figurehead Ed Boon for some more info:
The trailer heavily features Raiden's variations across his three different styles.
In an interview with IGN, Ed Boon broke these variations down, explaining how they impact Raiden's approach to combat. Displacer style is all about leveraging Raiden's teleportation abilities. He can appear on either side of his opponent, allowing him to get out of bad situations, and set up some tricky mixups.
Storm Lord Raiden, according to Boon, is the most unique version of Raiden. He can toss out little lightning bombs, and once two have been set, they form a stream of lighting between them, controlling large portions of space at a time. This makes him ideal for players who enjoy more of a zoning/keep away playstyle.
The third variation, tentatively being called Thunder God Raiden, is all about big damage. He doesn't have the utility of the other two, but looks to make up for it with a variety of powerful ways to finish combos.
Mortal Kombat X is in the works for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 for 2015.
