More Diablo Console Details Emerge

A lot of sites are taking this news as gospel, but we'll wait for the press release from Blizzard before commiting to actuality, but Blizzard's community manager used Twitter to oust his news that something, of some console variety, is most definitely underway at Blizz HQ.

"Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project", he wrote in response to Twitter questions regarding the confirmation, or denial, of a Diablo, or Diablo 3, console project.

Josh Mosqueira previously worked on Company of Heroes at Relic Entertainment, so if this is all good and true, the pedigree is at least sound.

As mentioned though, there's been a lot of talk regarding Diablo heading to consoles, with nothing of absolute note beyond "possibility" rearing its head, so again, we'll wait for the full marketing confirmation from the Blizzard higher-ups.

Diablo 3 is currently sheduled to release this year on PC and Mac.

Update: Blizzard have clarified their position:

Bashiok’s response on Twitter was intended as a confirmation that we’re actively exploring the possibility of developing a console version of Diablo III, as we’ve mentioned in the past. This is not a confirmation that Diablo III is coming to any console platform. Our focus right now is on finishing the PC/Mac version of Diablo III and making sure it’s a worthwhile successor to the Diablo series.

Don't really see why it wouldn't be on consoles. I remember Diablo 1 I think was on the PS1 or 2. Can't remember which one. Plus with the type of game it is, it would easily work on a console. Although I'd much rather play on a PC any day.

I can see fan boys getting all up in arms and attempting to boycott this. Doesn't bother me because I know blizzard design for PC first, and consoles get a port job. Just the way it should be for the PC overlords.

Maybe you can buy an life on the real money AH :P .... I am still curious to see how this is going to work with the different laws in different countries.

Maybe I'll actually use my PS3 for playing a game finally :P

Blizzard wont do a Diablo 3 'port'. Notice they use the term project.

It will be a console game based on Diablo 3, altered mechanics to work for a console unlike ports which generally leave the same mechanics unaltered.

I'd love a D3 console just to sit down with my Brother or a mate drinking beers and playing it on a big TV, but I already have D3 bought via WoW annual pass on PC.

Haha TicMan - pretty sure they're up to it. We've been playing through Magicka on our media PC with xbox 360 controllers and in order to boost shields in later levels I tap 'B' with both my index fingers flat out. The buttons just shrug the extra attention! Built to last.

Do you think that you don't mash buttons in other games?

Maybe you've never seen a street fighter player play before.

Although then i'd have to quote click, and replace with scrub.
