Blackpowder Games has announced the existence of their new Seattle-based independent studio and revealed their debut title, a first person shooter by the name of Betrayer. Blackpowder was founded by Craig Hubbard, David Longo, Larry Paolicelli, Brad Pendleton, Charles Wes Saulsberry III --former employees of Monolith Productions, credited as some of the creative team behind memorable games such as No One Live Forever, Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, and the original F.E.A.R.
Betrayer washes you ashore in the New World in 1604, where you’re expecting to join a struggling English colony on the Virginia coast. Instead you find only ghosts and mysteries in a land drained of color and life. You’ll build up an arsenal of weaponry including muskets, crossbows and throwing axes, collecting untold treasures along the way. Chart your own course through an untamed wilderness teeming with danger and discovery as you search for survivors and unravel the colony’s many mysteries, including the identity of the strange, silent woman in red who helps from afar.
Interestingly, Betrayer is expected to be made available via Steam Early Access this month, and although primarily a PC game, iOS and Android releases are also planned.
Check out some of the screenshots below, as well as the debut trailer for some creepy, monochrome colonial FPS action.
