Return to Monkey Island is a definite cause for celebration, it sees the return of the Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts point-and-click classic with creator Ron Gilbert at the helm, and series veteran Dave Grossman for good measure. As one of the most surprising and awesome game announcements of this year, we also got our first look at gameplay thanks to a new trailer that debuted a couple of days ago.
Which you can see here.
With its striking new art-style, great music and sound, it certainly has the feel of a brand-new Monkey Island. One that is also following in the footsteps of previous installments by shifting the look and feel as opposed to being beholden to one particular style. But, it's the look that has led to abuse, with people not content to express their dislike for the new look Monkey Island, but personally attack the game and series' creator on his own blog - Ron Gilbert's long-running Grumpy Gamer.
To the point where Ron Gilbert has stepped in to state that he'll no longer be posting about the game on his blog.
"I'm shutting down comments. People are just being mean and I'm having to delete personal attack comments. It's an amazing game and everyone on the team is very proud of it. Play it or don't play it but don't ruin it for everyone else. I won't be posting anymore about the game on my blog. The joy of sharing has been driven from me."
Return to Monkey Island is on track for 2022 release, where it's coming to Nintendo Switch and PC.
