Windows 10's VR solution Windows Mixed Reality will be getting a few reasonably priced VR headsets later this year with headset and motion controller bundles starting as low as $399 USD. Up until now, these "Windows Mixed Reality PCs" were seen as consumer application driven. And not really for high-end games. Well, that's changed as Microsoft has announced that games built for Valve's SteamVR platform will work on these Mixed Reality Headsets.

Right out of the gate too.

Windows Mixed Reality PCs will come in two flavours, PCs and laptops with Intel-powered integrated graphics offering VR at 60 frames per second and what are described as Windows Mixed Reality Ultra PCs - that being hardware with discrete graphics cards. Offering 90 frames per second VR action.

This is part of a push for affordable VR as an integral part of Windows 10. One of the main reasons for this being that Windows Mixed Reality headsets come equipped with built-in sensors to track your physical position, without the need for external sensors setup in a room. Plug-and-play if you will.

Expect to see devices from HP, Lenovo, Dell, and Acer later in the year.

Oh, and 343 Industries are working on bringing Halo experiences into Windows Mixed Reality ecosystem too. Very cool! This might be a long shot but our guess is that a version of the tech will make its debut at E3 next year, compatible with the Xbox One X - running Halo VR.

No mention of cables - are these wireless? No external sensors is a big plus though.
