Well, as of October 5. And yeah sure, the game creation tool was kind of free in a try before you buy sort of way, but now the whole shebang will be completely free. Including, access to all the additional packs and downloadable content like the episodic Conker stuff. Thus opening up the door for everyone to get in and "create, play, and share". Now that's not exactly a quote, I'm just assuming that's the Project Spark tagline. It kind of has to be right?
On top of going free-to-play, the October update for Project Spark will beef up what's already on offer, with the following key changes:
The maximum terrain limit in creations has been doubled (on top of Massive World Builder)The maximum prop limit in creations has been increased by 500 (on top of Massive World Builder)200+ new assets will be added in game, including a dragon, goblin warlord, bog biome and a set of new primitive building blocksEach creator will now have a total of 100 Upload Slots for their creationsUGC ranking will be based on downloads and favorites, instead of upvote/downvote ratingsThe Project Spark Marketplace has been removedThe Project Spark Tour and Treasure Trove have been removedAchievements have been revamped for players and creators
Oh and for anyone who bought a retail copy in the last few months, they'll be entitled to some Microsoft Store credit equivalent to the money they spent.
