With the surprise (and awesome) Metroid Prime Remastered release last month, Metroid Dread, Metroid Prime 4 still "coming soon... ish... maybe", Metroid (NES), Super Metroid (SNES), and Metroid II: Return of Samus (GB) all available on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service - Metroid fans be eating like a Metroid attached to an unsuspecting Space Pirate.

That is, they be eatin' good. The Nintendo Switch has gone from this somewhat Metroid-deficient but still brilliant console, to a one-stop Samus shop. And it's only going to get better as the Game Boy Advance classic, Metroid Fusion, is coming to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack lineup this week on March 9.

While lending mission support on planet SR388, interstellar bounty hunter Samus Aran is attacked by an X parasite, an organism with the ability to mimic the abilities of any creature it infects. Near death, Samus is saved by a vaccine made from the DNA of the last Metroid—the X parasite's only natural predator. When the X spread to a research station in orbit around SR388, a weakened Samus is forced to exterminate them all...or die trying.

Experience classic Metroid gameplay as Samus explores the secret passages of a massive research station teeming with hostile life forms. Master moves such as clinging to ledges, leaping to high ladders, and firing new weapons like Diffusion Missiles. Along the way, collect classic power-ups like the Morph Ball, Screw Attack, and Wave Beam. All these skills will be useful when you encounter the SA-X, an unstoppable X mimicking Samus, which is on the loose and could be just around the corner...

Metroid Fusion was released back in 2002 for the GBA, around the same time as Metroid Prime, and was an extension of the SNES-style side-scrolling Metroid action. It was a critical success at the time, which comes from first-hand experience on account of Nintendo Gamer scoring it pretty highly. I'm not sure of the exact score, I'd have to sift through a big ol' pile of magazines from twenty years ago to find out. Really though, you can find out for yourself and play it later this week.
