After being available on PlayStation and Xbox consoles since earlier this year, fans of Metal Gear Solid on PC will now be able to taste the latest addition in the long-running series with the launch of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes on Steam.

Acting as a prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and taking place one year after the events of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, players will assume control of the legendary Snake (a.k.a. Big Boss), charged with the infiltration of Camp Omega where both Paz and Chico are held. The hostages hold key information concerning Snake and his private military organisation that Snake and his ally Kaz Miller must prevent from being exposed. Ground Zeroes charts the rescue and the subsequent fallout that leads into the beginning of the The Phantom Pain. Ground Zeroes also acts as a bridge between previous Metal Gear Solid titles, easing players into the vaunted open world of MGSV.

Konami has also been quite intent on letting the PC world know that this won't be one of those barebones ports that sullies a series' good name forever. What has been promised so far includes customizable controls, Steam achievements, Steam Cloud support, and all that good stuff. Of course, there could still be framerate locks and restrictive graphics pre-sets, so we'll have to wait and see before we can declare it as a good port.

You can grab Ground Zeroes through Steam, which is conveinently seeing a 33% discount.
