In a panel presentation at GDC 2013, auteur game developer Hideo Kojima has revealed that the recent teasers for the mysterious The Phantom Pain, as well as Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, were both for the project that will be released as as Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain (from Polygon):
In a gameplay demonstration shown at GDC, Snake's mobility is compromised by the fact that he's been in a coma. A man who asks Snake to call him Ishmael — seemingly voiced by actor Kiefer Sutherland — helps Snake escape the hospital facility in an on-rails demo.
Kojima said that after the initial tutorial level, during which Snake crawls and stumbles, he'll be able to move freely throughout the world of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.
A tweet from Snake's long-time English voice-actor David Hayter has confirmed that he is not involved in the new project, suggesting that Kiefer Sutherland has now stepped into the role.
Konami has released the first official trailer, and the clever folk from GamesHQMedia reportedly managed to capture some gameplay from a livestream of the presentation. Watch both below.
Update: Kojima has now clarified via Twitter (before posting yet another photo of his lunch), that Ground Zeroes will take place before The Phantom Pain in the Metal Gear Solid 5 game
"Ground Zeroes" is a prologue of "MGSV". 9 years after that event will be "The Phantom Pain". MGSV is constructed w/ prologue and main game "TPP". The game play demo I presented today is the opening of "TPP" which is tutorial that starts from crawling.
Nah it's Keither Sutherland doing the voice for big boss now. He does have a kinda similar voice to David Hayter but man, it will be weird to hear a different voice for solid snake.
Whoops yea I mean't Big boss, as far as I know Solid Snake isn't in this. Also apparently Keifer sutherland isn't big boss he' the bandaged guy, my bad.
Wat. No David Hayter. Deal breaker... But seriously I hope this is incredible. My personal favorite MGS game by a long shot was MGS 3, would like to see some elements from that again
So i just played All the MGS games in Chronological order starting with 3, then peace walker, 1, 2 and then 4... F*****g Amazing Series of games, and it's got me amped as s*** for this new one.
As far as there being no david hayter.. It's possible Big Boss voice has changed, they didn't use hayter in Spoiler: MGS4 so it's quite possible it will be a non event that purist will cry about but roll over anyway.
