Following a recent delay which saw the release window for the upcoming MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries pushed back to 2019 comes word from MechCon 2018 that a release date has been set for the long awaited title. September 10, 2019. The news came alongside a new extended trailer, which truth be told - looks "okay".
In that Mech movement is weirdly fast, and the bland environments coupled with the destructible buildings and low-grade explosions make it look like more of a tech demo than previous glimpses.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will allow pilots to build, manage and guide their own mercenary unit through a multi-year campaign during the sprawling Third and Fourth Succession Wars. Whether braving missions alone, alongside AI-controlled pilots, or with the help of up to three friends via co-op play, players will face complicated situations with no perfect solution as they choose which contracts to accept, where in the galaxy to direct their attention, and how to balance repairs or upgrades with maintaining their unit’s precious resources.
Still, it could be the heavily compressed almost bootleg look to the trailer that's making it feel less impressive than it should. That said, a context-full trailer showcasing a single mission from load-out to deployment and then engaging in combat would have served the release date announcement more than a random selection of clips.
