Max Payne 3 is "not a port" of the console versions of the game, Rockstar has asserted, revealing that it has been built from the ground up for the PC platform to "run beautifully straight out of the box".

"We're proud to say that Max Payne 3 will support Direct X 11 features including Tessellation," reads a fact sheet from Rockstar. "This means a higher frame-rate, greater visual fidelity, precision mouse and keyboard controls, a full suite of customisable visual and control settings, and optional 3D functionality for an even greater sense of immersion."

We also have a handful of PC-specific screens you can check out via the thumbnails below. It's great to see a steady increase in the number of developers taking the PC platform seriously again, and Max Payne 3 is really starting to look like a bit of a PC poster-child.

The game is due to arrive on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 May 15. Stay tuned for more in the lead up to its release, right here on AusGamers.

I was excited until I look at those screenshots.

I am sorry but they are pretty bad and look really out of date graphics wise.

The problem is, say they built the PC version from the ground up. So it better makes use of PC hardware. It's pretty pointless if it uses the same lower resolution textures and same lower polygon models as the consoles.

This is what's wrong, they make a claim they're taking the PC seriously. When they aren't. Look at Crysis 2 DX11 or BF3 to see what DX11 features look like when implemented. Here's a case of basically taking the console game, maybe getting it to run different than a direct port, while it's still the same game with same very minor slight additions. "Oh it uses tesselation... very minimally and not on environments.. in fact it basically makes no difference to what the game looks like.. but it is used!"

I'll wait for other people to play it before I consider getting this on PC.

greater visual fidelity

Yeah we get to see high res versions of your blurry consolified textures. WOO!

precision mouse and keyboard controls

It scares me when this is a feature you have to talk about on a PC game.

a full suite of customisable visual and control settings

I can see it already. Vsync on/off and resolution. Maybe AA settings if a unicorn farts a rainbow that lands on a 4 leaf clover a leprechaun is using to wipe his arse.

Don't be too hard on RockStar, They are too busy not making RDR for PC to bother with making awesome textures and models for MP3.
