Rockstar has today announced that the next title in the Max Payne series is finally here on PC. Featuring the very gritty tale of former New York City detective Max Payne, the PC version suppts a wide range of PC specifications, plus advanced graphics options, scalable high-resolution textures and character models, DirectX11 features, LAN support, multi-monitor support and stereoscopic 3D compatibility.
Max Payne 3 is the story of former New York City detective, Max Payne. His life in ruins and unable to move on from the tragic events of years past, Max looks for a new start working private security with an old friend in São Paulo, Brazil.
When the wife of his employer is kidnapped by a street gang while under Max’s protection, Max’s life spirals out of control as the factions of a dangerous and unfamiliar city close in on him, conspiring to keep Max from the real reasons behind the kidnapping and his part in a much larger conspiracy.
If you still aren't sure whether the life of Max Payne is worth it, check out AusGamers review. You can also check out the PC launch trailer embedded below which gives a great view of those beautiful graphics in action.
Yeah, I found this article when I was looking for some kind of writeup about what improvements the PC version actually has. Its an interesting read, does some benchmarks to show how it runs on different cards too (nvidia ones only though obviously). Of note:
When details were first released regarding the game’s system requirements, folks were taken aback by the need for 35GB of hard drive space, an insignificant amount in the era of 2TB hard drives but more than almost any other game. The reason, Rockstar explains, is because Max Payne 3’s PC textures are four times the resolution of those on consoles:
"The installed size of Max Payne 3 is attributed to the no-compromise quality of its assets which have already pushed console disc space to the limits. A good portion of the extra space on PC can be attributed to increased texture size which is four times that of the consoles. In addition, the audio quality is significantly higher than the consoles due to lower compression rates which increase fidelity. Again, this comes back to the range of possibilities that the PC platform opens up for us."
Also uses a bunch of DX11 stuff and some tessellation to improve the level of detail as well.
I'm playing it at the moment and it actually looks a lot better then Crysis. Very crisp and the detail in even the most simplest objects is pretty astounding.

You know I always wonder why devs don't make high res textures for the PC versions and then scale them down so they are console ok, instead of just upsizing blurry s*** for us.
Well I bought a key of a site but I do not have access to the discs.....so....I have 20gb left on my download and I have been downloading for over 24 hours.
Maybe you need better internet, I started downloading about 4 hours ago and I'm 80% done. Though I'm actually getting better speeds from Steam than I usually do. Usually it seems to top out at about 500 - 600k/s for me off Steam but for the past few hours its been going at 1.1mb/s, very nice!
I don't think its actually on sale at JB yet, I looked it up yesterday and it said its not available till the 7th of June or something. That was when I bit the bullet and bought it off Steam.
Runs really, really good though. I mean, I have a pretty beefy PC but I can run it completely maxed out (no pun intended) and it doesn't skip a beat, so I'm sure it'd scale down pretty good cos theres a tonne of graphics options you can tweak. Also it looks s*** hot.
Great looking game, but the gameplay is somewhat lacking. I could dub it "Slow Motion: The Game" quite easily and that would portray it best. Story is great though, feels like a movie.
My key apparently does not work with steam so I am getting it from other sources. If it was with steam, I would normally get 200-700kbps download speed.

So it's pretty much a faithful follow up to Max Payne 1 & 2

Really?
I'm playing it and was thinking. Damn I wish they made a game like this using the CryEngine 3. It'd look so much better. Also run better and smoother.
As far as textures, a lot still looks lower end of quality for PC these days. I think tesselation is used minimally to refine models.
I'm enjoying it, very much a movie though. I wish the cover mechanics were better. More like in Dues Ex.
I recommend if you think you'd like a good action movie, cinematic game.
Seems to be something weird where when you come out of cover to shoot your gun doesn't aim at what would have been the center of the screen, every time I think I have an enemy lined up and pop out of cover to shoot I'm always like a bit to the left and need to correct. I dunno if its the games fault or something is just throwing me off or what, but it happens nearly every time.
Still really fun though, I miss the film noir story-telling style of the first two a little bit, but this one is still awesome, reminds me of that Denzel Washington movie Man on Fire a bit.
I am guessing it's probably because on console they use an aim assist. On PC they got rid of it. However never properly fixed the game play mechanics.
It can actually be quite difficult at times. Skill levels at first are just Easy, Medium, Hard. With more to be unlocked. I normally would have done hard. However sometimes I just want to enjoy a game with out it being too much of a challenge. I thought i'd just breeze through easily. However I still get killed a lot.
The cinematic style. I can't help with the interlaced overlays and stuff are annoying or actually do some how make it better. Otherwise I like the style.
Finally finished downloading, Looks good and plays good too. Bit tired of his self pitty drunk cop routine though. I wanted a challenge so I am playing on hard straight off.
