Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit for the Nintendo Switch introduces a new way to play Mario Kart - with a real-world RC car controlled by the Switch. Not only that but it lets you create courses in your own home to race around. The AR magic though is where it goes from cool to downright impressive, with on-screen items and obstacles affecting the speed and movement of your kart in addition to mushrooms giving you the per-requisite speed boost.

Here's the new detailed overview that covers what you can expect to find when this launches on October 16.

As per above Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit will be available in two brotherly flavours - Mario or Luigi. Where in addition to the kart-with-camera you get four numbered gates that represent the track and checkpoints. Course design is left up to the player with 12 x 10 feet of space recommended - with a steering assist option included for youngsters.

From there a traditional Grand Prix mode opens up where you race against Koopalings across Mario-themed tracks (thanks to digital AR goodness) across 50cc, 100cc, 150cc, and 200cc. In the video above we see underwater, volcanic, and even 8-bit retro courses. Custom Race (where you get to create your own tracks right down to the obstacles and visual elements), Time Trial, and a Mirror Mode are also included - pointing to a full featured Mario Kart release. Though four-player races will require four karts and four Nintendo Switch consoles.

Collecting coins in-game will also unlock a suite of cosmetic options for different karts and outfits ala Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
