This month saw the launch of a local server for Wargaming's World of Tanks for the ANZ region. The only restriction was that based on player numbers that Wargaming were observing in the region the server was only available from 6pm to midnight. But after a few days the response far exceeded Wargaming's expectations, as Travis Plane, Wargaming Australia New Zealand Country Manager explains.
“We launched servers on November 1, and only between 6pm and midnight because outside of those hours we saw that we didn’t have enough players to satisfy the matchmaking requirements to provide a great experience," Travis tells me. "But as we launched on November 1, three days later we had to increase the hours to 2am - so the response has been huge. And to be really transparent it’s been greater than we expected, and we were hoping that it would do well."
Which is great news for local World of Tanks fans, with Travis noting that "If the response continues we’ll definitely open the hours more. As a data focussed company we can see the numbers in real time, so it’s easy for us to understand very quickly whether the servers are being utilised or not and at what capacity.”
