Pitting state against state in sport is something that Australians know all too well. Sure, when it comes to international competition we all stand behind the green and gold as one, but locally, it's Victoria or nothing. Or NSW. Or QLD. Or, the other guys. After a successful run last year, Riot Games is now partnering with the AFL to bring back League of Legends: League of Origin on November 17.

Where competitive League of Legends will be played in the state of origin format live from Melbourne, Victoria on Saturday 17 November at Margaret Court Arena. The four teams set to compete cover New Zealand, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, with the two top teams making it to the finals series.

AFL General Manager for Growth, Digital and Audiences Darren Birch said, "The AFL is excited to provide League of Legends fans the chance to see their favourite players live in action. Margaret Court Arena is a prime location to bring together fans from across the nation and New Zealand for the League of Origin Grand Final.”

"We're excited to be taking League of Legends: League of Origin to Melbourne," added Dan Ringland, Country Manager at Riot Games. "In what will be the second stadium event there this year after a fantastic OPL Grand Final at Melbourne Park. Given their victory in the inaugural League of Origin title last year, the team from Vic will no doubt be keen to show New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand that they are still the strongest esports state in the region.”

Love that he threw in the friendly reminder that Vic took the crown last year.
