You might be living it up in the Nord land of Skyrim at the moment, but there's another hefty RPG still to come with its feet firmly planted in high-fantasy.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a new action/RPG coming from Big Huge Games and 38 Studios with animation directed by Todd McFarlane, a story penned by R.A. Salvatore and features creative direction from the enigmatic Ken Rolston (Morrowind, Oblivion). In short, it's another huge game that will definitely keep you grinding away in a lush fantasy setting.

The teams at work on this though, are definitely trying a few new things in the genre, some of which are explored in this new video you can watch embedded below.

Graphics look ok, if a tad too WoWish. Looks like your standard generic fantasy RPG setting.

The voiceover copy sounded like it was written by an accountant though. ZZzzzzzzzz...

Ken Rolston, he's a bit of a fruit loop but I like his thoughts and work on RPG's. I actually don't mind R.A Salvatore's writing (even if he killed Chewie >_< the original Icewind Dale trilogy and his following Dark Elf trilogy was written too well to pass him off as just another fantasy hack - even if some of his later stuff is not as interesting). Todd McFarlane, well it's been a long time since Spawn so lets see how that pans out.

Long story short, interesting collection of names who have all contributed to the RPG/Fantasy genre significantly in their own fields, will be interesting to see how it melds together.

Todd McFarlane is just consulting on the art direction etc, not doing any actual work himself.
