If you thought next-gen gaming was going to bring less file sizes for games, sadly it seems you may have been wrong. Developer Guerrilla Games has revealed to Eurogamer that their PlayStation 4 exclusive title Killzone: Shadow Fall weighs in at roughly 39.7GB for Europe, with other countries getting slight variations taking into account other languages.

Of course this large size for games is definitely going to sway many Australians to simply opt for discs, with our country's Internet data being quite expensive for higher caps. Luckily, Guerrilla are utilising Sony's new PlayGo system, which will allow those who opt for digital purchases the chance to play the game while it streams after an initial 7.5GB download. Phew.

It isn't just the humungous sizes that Guerrilla Games has tackled, also revealing during the Eurogamer interview that the team has eliminated all startup logos, so say goodbye to your epilepsy warnings, Dolby and Havok warnings.
To me, that's still something that fills my heart with joy when I see it. You insert the disc and go straight to menu," he says. "People here worked very hard... We had to ask legal and Dolby, the epilepsy warning stuff, the logos from Havok - we had to negotiate with them that we could put it in the credits and not the title screen... All the rules are built around the previous generation. I'm really happy that we're one of the first ones in, and I hope it's an example that people are going to follow.
Alongside the reveal of how gigantic some of the HD textures are, several gaming sites have had a chance to get their hands on both the single-player and multiplayer side of Killzone: Shadow Fall, so check out a quick brief of some impressions below and also take a peak at some new screenshots showing off the eye candy.
PlayStation Official Magazine:
My way, when rescuing the hostages, involves kicking open doors and sending in the owl. This robot death Frisbee is one of the chief tools a Shadow Marshal has to play with and comes with a range of abilities to liven things up. In this case I use it to deliver a flashbang-like stun blast so that I can slip in afterwards and take down the blinded Higs as they stumble about. It’s a satisfyingly successful tactic. In fact the only dampener on the whole operation are the slightly wooden hostages who don’t quite seem to realise the next generation has happened and they’re in it.
Gamereactor:
Owl is an AI controlled drone that the player carries along on his back. Pressing the L1 button lets you assign Owl with one of four tasks. Owl can attack the enemy, stun Helghans with an electric shock, place a Halo-esque plasma shield, or put up a wire that the player can glide across. These functions are activated with the touchpad in the middle of Dual Shock 4 and it becomes intuitive after only a couple of uses.
GameSpot:
Killzone has always prided itself on its weapons, and with 22 weapons available to play with at launch, there's generally something for everyone to play with. The M82 assault rifle, stA-52 assault rifle, and stA-18 pistol return from the previous games, and Shadow Fall's standard rifle can switch between a conventional machine gun and what feels like a hybrid of a sniper rifle and a rail gun.
