The Kickstarter funding concept drew a lot of attention with Double Fine and Tim Schafer's recent efforts, but other lessor-known developers have also been using the platform to help get their new games rolling. Indie dev Spiral Game Studios reached their far more modest goal of $10,000 last month, paving way for their debut project ORION: Prelude -- intended to be a fast-paced sci-fi shooter with jetpacks, dinosaurs and vehicles.
Today, however that project now seems to spawned something else that focuses a little more on those Jurassic reptiles, with the official announcement of ORION: Dino Beatdown.
‘ORION: Dino Beatdown’ is an Open World, Class-Based Cooperative Survival Sci-Fi FPS. The game puts five (5) players together in huge, endless environments in which they must work together to accomplish objectives and survive the devastating Dinosaur horde.
Although ORION: Prelude was aiming for Steam, XBLA and PSN, it appears that Dino Beatdown has forgone the console options for the time being, with only Steam and OnLive listed as the current target platforms and a USD$9.99 price point.
It looks cheesy as hell, but we're not sure that matters with games like Quake 2 CTF, Starsiege: Tribes and the original Unreal Tournament listed as its inspiration and the team boasting developers who worked on "games like BioShock, Ghost Recon, Unreal Tournament, Forza Motorsport, Jade Empire, Halo, Borderlands and Mortal Kombat".
