It seems everyone has been caught up with Thatgamecompany's latest hit release, Journey, with news that sales for the PSN only game has surpassed everyone's expectations, becoming the fastest selling game on the network.

Posting on the official PlayStation Blog, Creative Director Jenova Chen of Thatgamecompany shared the ecstatic response that they have had since release as well as comparing the response from Journey to their previous title "Flower" was overwhelming.
Thanks to you, Journey has officially broken PlayStation Network and PlayStation Store sales records, surpassing all first and third-party games to become the fastest-selling game ever released in the SCEA region on the PlayStation Network.

We owe a lot to our fans. In fact, idea of forming the thatgamecompany team to create games with Sony Santa Monica originated from several dozen emails that players sent in after playing our first student game, Cloud, from our time at USC. It was the players who told us how moving the game was and how it is important that we keep making these types of games so that more people in the world will realize what video games can be, and can grow to love games through our work. To me, that was a life-changing moment. I knew making games was my life calling.
Celebrating the success, Thatgamecompany released a special art piece for all fans (check it out below), as well as the chance to buy the official soundtrack composed by Austin Wintory. The soundtrack will be hitting the PS Store and iTunes on April 10, and there will be a limited CD release in the near future as well.

These days you could make the worst game in the world and still get high sales so long as you hyped the game up for months in advance. Journey is all right, I don't really think it's worth $20 compared to other PSN games that are cheaper and have more replay value, journey has almost none. I still enjoyed playing it through and would recommend it but don't expect to get a lot of time out of it.

Maybe I don't keep up with all the gaming news, but I knew hardly anything about it till it was released and I view it as money really well spent. Hell, I'll spend more on going to the movies tonight. I guess it is how you look at it, but I wouldn't soley base money being well spent over how long I can spend playing a game. Quality over quantity and all that.. Journey has been one of the best games (dare I say it, experiences?) I've had in a while.

Id never even heard of it before really. 20 bucks for it does seem a bit much from what ive seen and the fact you cant really redo that much on it.

It's a bit pricey for the length, but I just purchased and finished it today and I rate it.

PSN only. Saw it on aus gamers and would love to play it on PC. F*****g console exclusive. Hopefully it will be like Limbo and eventually port over.

i doubt it since all their games have been made exclusively for sony's psn.

Don't hold your breathe for that. Download exclusive games usually never get let loose on PC. Sure there are exceptions like Limbo and Alan Wake but then they all came from the MS publishing umbrella. Indies that are in publishing contract with Sony use their SDK which doesn't have any build targeting for a PC executable to give them the option of publishing to other markets later once their 'exclusivity' contract obligations have been met as far as I know.

The developers earlier title Flower for instance.

Wow, that looks really f*****g nice. Just watching some of the gameplay on youtube. Wish all these games would make it to Steam but that will prolly never ever happen.

Probably not. It took SEGA over 15 years to remarket their Megadrive Classics to an emulator for Windows.

Not exactly rushing out to buy a PS3 and then plug in your credit card or redeem voucher to play it?

I finally got around to playing Journey and must say I am bitterly disappointed. The Journey threads here gave it far too much hype :(

From a business point of view I have doubts something like this would work for PC anyway due to infrastructure requirements for anonymous matchmaking. The XBL/PSN console networks have the advantage there.

I was pretty hyped up before it went on sale and I think out of the PSN games I've bought its one of the few I've been really happy with as a purchase and felt worth my money. I don't think its for everyone but if you like this style I think its great and unique.
