Insomniac Games, creators of Resistance, Ratchet & Clank and Spyro have revealed that their next game won't be PlayStation exclusive -- as we've become accustomed from them -- it's a Facebook social game titled Outernauts:
“We see a huge opportunity to reach an entirely different audience of gamers through Facebook,” said Ted Price, President and Founder of Insomniac Games. “As we have demonstrated for nearly twenty years in the console games space, we’re confident we can help evolve the definition of a game experience on Facebook. With Outernauts, we are delivering a deep story with real RPG strategy, coupled with Insomniac’s signature sense of humor.”
The game itself will be an adventure role-playing game with a focus on storytelling and Insomniac's family-friendly style of humour.
The Outernauts are charged with capturing and training exotic alien beasts as they uncover the riddle behind mysterious “ancients” while battling pirates and evil corporations seeking to control the galaxy. Players will explore planets, harvest loot, and fight asynchronously alongside or against friends to master a wild, untamed universe.
A closed beta test for Outernauts is currently underway and the game is scheduled to launch this Winter (US Summer) at facebook.com/outernauts. The game is being published under Electronic Arts' EA Partners label, along with Insomniac's other more conventional game Overstrike -- which we hope to see more of at next month's E3 expo.
