The line-up of free games coming the baseline PlayStation Plus Essential tier for August 2022 includes Yakuza: Like A Dragon. A seriously brilliant RPG that if you haven't played, well, now's the time. The hits don't stop there though, as that's joined by the sk8ter b0i action of Tony Hawk and the unnerving platforming terror that is Little Nightmares.

In a move that is very cool to see, Sony has announced that the PlayStation 5 is getting native 1440p support - which is currently being tested right now as part of a system software beta. Even though 1440p is mostly associated with the PC space, sitting in-between 1080p and 4K as a sort of sweet-spot resolution, this will open up native PS5 support to a wider range of displays.

With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass Wave 2 arriving on August 5, bringing eight new courses to race on including Sydney Sprint. Which is very cool to see, as it the N64 classic Kalimari Desert making an appearance. Wave 2 introduces two new cups, the Turnip Cup and Propeller Cup, as highlighted in the trailer below.

Ah to be yacht-rich, to have a fleet of luxury boats sailing around all of the places where the water is blue and the caviar gets delivered by helicopter fresh from wherever it is caviar comes from. Yacht Mechanic Simulator, which is available now on PC (via Steam), lets you "renovate, redecorate, test, and sell state-of-the-art yachts of various sizes".

An announcement from developer Fatshark over on social media has confirmed that the upcoming release of co-op multiplayer action game Warhammer 40K: Darktide has been delayed. Originally planned for September, it's now on track for a November 30 launch on PC with the Xbox Series X|S version coming "shortly after".

Monolith Soft's Xenoblade Chronicles series has been growing steadily in popularity, showcasing that with each new entry (and remaster) it had the chops to deliver memorable stories and characters to sit alongside strategic real-time combat. With Xenoblade Chronicles 3 for the Nintendo Switch, it might have delivered its masterpiece.

No More Heroes 3 debuted on the Nintendo Switch around this time last year, marking the return of Travis Touchdown in a full release that promised to up the insanity that series was known for. There's a lot to like about its blend of fast-paced combat, strange boss battles, and mini-games where you're tasked with mowing people's lawns.

PAX Australia is back in in-person form for 2022, and to help celebrate the return comes word that US-based craft beer Voodoo Ranger has been named as the official beer partner for the event. And with that, the PAX Pub will now be called the Voodoo Saloon. Being a gaming event it'd be nice to see some old Voodoo Graphics cards on display for that extra dose of voodoo.

Daedalic Entertainment has taken to Twitter to announce that its long-in-development stealth-action game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been delayed and won't be hitting its planned September release date. The September 1 date was only revealed a few months ago, with the developer noting that the release has been pushed back "by a few months" so it can "deliver the best possible experience".

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic, which represents one of the most popular expansions in WoW's long and storied history is set to launch September 27 AEST. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is legit a slice of retro gold, and it's out August 30 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch. The Atari 2600 first launched in 1977 (where it eventually came to Australia in the 1980s) a home console that featured stylish wood paneling and a joystick with a single button. The Atari 2600 is so old though that not many gamers out there have actual memories of playing it when it was brand new. With the feature currently live for Xbox Insiders, with plans to roll it out to everyone on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S soon. As one of the premier chat and social platforms on PC, Discord coming to Xbox in voice-form is pretty cool. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II was released for the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox way back in 2004, where it took the setting from the PC classic and turned it into a more fast-paced action-RPG. This was long before Diablo made its way to consoles too, making it a first taste of that style for many. And now it's back, in remastered form for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
