HyperX ditches Cherry MX mechanical switches for Kailh Silver Speed switches with the release of the new HyperX Alloy FPS RGB mechanical keyboard. So then, why the change? Well, it comes down to focusing on pure game performance with an eye toward tournament and professional play. Fast and responsive.

At a solid 1.1kb, the build quality of the HyperX Alloy FPS RGB is uniformly excellent – and again the only real point of difference comes with the addition of Kailh Silver Speed switches. These silent mechanical switches have a small actuation distance and force required to register a keystroke, meaning that touch-gaming or touch-typing is a breeze. If you’re used to the more clicky and subsequently firmer mechanical switch types out there then the change will take some getting used to. With a 70 million keystroke lifespan those worried about a loss in quality from the move away from Cherry MX shouldn’t worry too much, as in the end it will come down to feel as the HyperX Alloy FPS RGB only offers the one switch type.
