It took them a while, but -- 3 months after launch -- THQ have now released a PC demo for thier flagship shooter Homefront. While the game didn't fare very well critically (AusGamers 5.8/10) this was largely attributed to the lacklustre singleplayer campaign and most reviews acknowledge a lot more value in the multiplayer component. So What better way to find out for yourself than a playable mutliplayer demo?
Like the recently released Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 demos, the Homefront PC multiplayer demo offers up two maps and two game modes and like the retail game includes dedicated server support. Additionally, the game is on sale for 50% off this weekend on Steam, unfortunately still subject to the "Australia Tax" however, so you're looking at USD$39.99 as opposed to USD$24.99 if you were in North America. That said, the demo is free, so
head over to Steam to download it.

The Multiplayer is another question...there's about 277 servers with various Pings ranging from 30 up to over 480 (no idea what county that's in). There is currently up to 7 servers being used at any one time which is annoying. There are also some hackers that stick their moron heads up which is very annoying.
I think the 3 gig download from Steam to update the game is crap.
The game play is good unless someone starts using the UAV all the time and bombarding you. It reminds me of Battlefield 2 play especially the vehicles and choppers but no planes.
The rank up is tooooo easy. I've been playing for around a month and am up to level 36 - Lt. lev 3 or something that. There are too mnay generals.
The package you buy should have a warning that you are buying a dowload from Steam which is does not.
I will continue to play it cos I like it. It least it's somewhat better than Combat Arms (hackerville)

I played it a few months after release. Was only 1 server with a handful of people, i kept getting disconnected from the server and it was pretty much camperville - you die after a few shots so i found most people lay prone in grass or crouched behind barrels and shot at anybody who dared to move. Total play time <30mins and havent returned to it since but this free weekend might tempt me if i can play along side the demo players.
