At the recent RTX Sydney event, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima
spoke with IGN and shared some of his thoughts about Nintendo's next console. Citing a bit of technology that he used in an earlier title that allowed for the transfer of saves from the PlayStation 3 to the PS Vita he went on to state that "the fact you can play something at home and take it outside, this is the gamer's dream" in relation to the Nintendo Switch.
Kojima then went on to reaffirm this belief by pointing to the film and television industries where download codes are included in Blu Ray disc purchases and that it's fairly common for someone to watch something at home and on their smart device whilst on the go. "This is how movies and TV are moving, and this is how games should go," he said.
Taking it one step further Kojima believes that a console like the Nintendo Switch is just the first step into a brighter future. Well, one where games can be played on any device. All connected to the all-powerful, all-knowing, Cloud.
"I feel like cloud technology is what everything will eventually move to," he continued. "It's further behind right now than I think where people thought it would be at this point, but I think it will go there, and when the infrastructure is ready, you'll be able to play everything, on every device, anywhere. The Switch is the predecessor to this step."
All hail the Cloud. And Kojima.
