From Devolver Digital, Gamepires and Serious Sam developer Croteam comes SCUM - a hardcore open world survival game with PvP events like Team Deathmatch. So in between hunting for food and scavenging for supplies you can test your mettle against other players. But perhaps the most interesting aspect of SCUM is the detailed character customisation and just what affects movement and gameplay. Hell, there's a detailed simulation of how your body metabolises various food.

Here's a great gameplay trailer that breaks down some of the mechanics - whilst also introducing the setting of being a prisoner on a massive 144 square-kilometer island. Which in terms of comparison is a little like Rust meets DayZ - and yeah, there are zombie like creatures teased at the very end.

SCUM aims to evolve the multiplayer open world survival game with unprecedented levels of character customization, control and progression, where knowledge and skills are the ultimate weapons for long-term survival. Combining the methodical planning and management of hardcore survival with optional PvP ‘network events’ available to everyone at any time, SCUM strikes a unique balance between complex simulation and intense action in the next generation of survival game.

Not highlighted in the video, well, sort of but not explained - players will also need to both urinate and defecate at regular intervals. Check it out on Steam.
