During the big first-party Xbox Showcase overnight for the Xbox Series X, Microsoft debuted the first in-game footage from Halo Infinite – which is on track to debut alongside the console later this year. In the 9-minute demo, presented in 4K 60 frames-per-second, we see the Master Chief briefly explore a massive open-world (that is naturally set on a Halo Ring) before jumping into the action.

Check it out.

According to Michael Wolf, Marketing Lead, Halo Infinite, the above gameplay comes from several hours into the campaign.
Halo Infinite is the most ambitious Halo game ever made, with an environment several times larger than the last two Halo games combined. Players can explore an expansive landscape filled with sprawling natural wonder, mystery, and a story that welcomes those new to the franchise as well as continues the Master Chief’s saga for our most dedicated fans.

With Xbox Series X and the Slipspace Engine, built to power the future of Halo, Halo Infinite is poised to usher in the next generation of gaming. Taking full advantage of the power of the console to deliver unprecedented visual fidelity and silky smooth campaign gameplay at a locked 60 frames per second at up to 4K resolution, the Slipspace Engine will also scale to existing platforms to provide a fantastic experience for players on the Xbox One family of devices as well as Windows 10 and Steam.

If anything, our only point of criticism is that we would have loved to see more of the exploration. The world looks incredible, with an impressive draw distance, and running at 60-frames-per-second it’s as smooth as you’d want it to be. An impressive showing for Halo Infinite, and as per above it's also coming to Xbox One and PC.

Oh, the Banished and grappling hook confirmed.
