During a live-stream with GamesRadar, where the game being played was of course Halo 5 on Xbox One, franchise chief Frank O'Connor clarified that bringing the game to PC was "absolutely within the bounds of reason." Citing the just about like-for-like hardware setup of an Xbox One with a modern day PC, bringing the immensely popular shooter to PC shouldn't pose any real technical difficulties.

Plus, there's also the fact that the first two games in the Halo franchise received PC versions. Albeit years later.

“There is plenty of chance that Halo 5 could appear on the PC. Nothing to announce at this point but it’s absolutely within the bounds of reason. We developed the game on an Intel platform. It wouldn’t be the hardest thing in the world to move it to PC and take advantage of PC stuff. But nothing to announce today on this chat.”

Halo 5 is out today on Xbox One.

Downloading it now on Xbox but I have noticed people on the WoW forums complaining that it is a Xbox exclusive. Maybe would be a good idea to bring the franchise back to PC as well.

Perhaps Frank should talk with Aaron Greenberg (Head of marketing for Xbox Games). News from four days ago.

They always say it's exclusive though, till its not. Like when gta v came out it was 360 and ps3 only with no plans for next gen consoles or a pc version... Until they announced next gen consoles and a pc version. I mean, If they announce all those things at the start, how are they meant to sell people 2 or 3 copies of the same game!

Unless Microsoft make the call I don't think it will matter what 343i want to do. They could always rebel and go to Activision like Bungie did though I guess.

Halo sells Xboxes; I have no idea why they'd want to put it on PC. Unless they want to demonstrate their seriousness about all that platform convergence s*** of course!

I think 343 are an actual Microsoft studio though, not just a third party that works closely with them, so they wouldn't be going anywhere.

Still waiting for Red Dead Redemption on PC, lolz!

I think fair to say there's a solid console market who won't shift to PC. How many of those are PC master race at heart and only on XBOX for Halo.... I don't know, doesn't seem like it.

PC master race here despite having an XBONE and PS4 in the house which I never touch. Having never played the Halo franchise before I'm indifferent. From a Microsoft perspective I know there is a big push for them to can the X-Box and other hardware as it's generally break even/small profits that also eats into their Windows and other software profits. So I could see why Microsoft may want to push the PC platform harder.

Microsoft have said publically not too long ago they are happy enough with the Xbox division to keep supporting it.

I doubt they'd can XBox, it probably got off to a slower start than they wanted, but it still has a pretty huge install base already. I'd bet more than the 360 had at this point in its lifecycle.

It's not my Xbone and the fact that Microsoft have to defend the continued existence of the Xbox publicly illustrates that not is all smooth sailing for it. It would surprise me if the Xbox was ditched but I am surprised that Microsoft aren't opting for a more "Microsoft" exclusive development rather than Xbox exclusive.

I think their convergence vision might explain a lot of that. They want to be a software & services company that can be on any device and is the go-to choice for a lot of key user journeys. Though they are a ginormous corporation with so many different things going on, so there's always going to be some contradiction.
