After recently leaving Early Access on PC after a few years, the "original standalone battle royale game" is coming to PlayStation 4 with an Open Beta launching on May 22. Although hype and general interest for the game has waned since the arrival of both PUGB and Fortnite, it is good to see that H1Z1 is finally making its way to console.
“H1Z1 on PS4 is true battle royale mayhem. We have reimagined the game for PlayStation 4 and have designed it to accentuate the essentials of battle royale that make the genre so exciting to watch and play,” said H1Z1 Producer Terrence Yee. “We have added key gameplay differentiators to keep the game frantic and fun -- an action shooter’s dream of fast-paced battle royale.”
For the PS4 expect revamped controls and a re-designed UI to better suit couch play. As per the recent PC release the PS4 version will also include the new progression system, but will do away with crafting. In recent updates the overall speed of H1Z1 has increased so if it's been a while since you've checked it out the PS4 version will no doubt look and feel quite different.
Also, in a clear nod to the Xbox One version of PUBG, Daybreak Games notes that on the PS4 Pro the game runs at 60fps. Like with Fortnite, the free-to-play H1Z1 will offer special bundles that you can purchase for in-game cosmetics.
