As promised Rockstar Games have dropped the first trailer for the recently announced Grand Theft Auto V. Unlike their previous game reveals, this debut video doesn't disclose much about characters, focusing only on the city which, as rumored, appears to be a return to the series' faux-Los Angeles, Los Santos.

There's also no mention of the launch platforms or release window, but we're going to at least assume it's being tooled for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It does however provide a look at the graphical improvements which are a cut above it's predecessor, and the narrator -- and likely primary player character -- sounds like a white American male, as opposed to the boys n' the hood of the last visit to Los Santos in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Let's hope there's more to come in weeks rather than months and that this wasn't just a long-view reveal attempting to take some wind out of the soon-to-launch competition.

oh wow, i'm actually impressed. A character that shares common elements with the type of people playing the game? Well done rockstar, i suppose you had to hit rock bottom (san andreas) before you got better!

Looks pretty good - but that's what I thought about 4, and was really disappointed with the shallow gameplay compared to San Andreas etc.

Looks good. Hopefully it's a return to SA type gameplay and a decent protagonist.

Hopefully it comes to PC and they give the PC build some love.

Well, I'm already more interested because the protagonist actually sounds likeable, and isn't a black guy (not that I'm racist, but San Andreas annoyed me cos I couldn't understand wtf half the people were saying).

San Andreas picked up after the early serious stuff, became way more comical, and had jetpacks, and hades.

few game sites are predicting you will play the 3 characters seen in the trailer. the black dude, the older fella and the guy with the shaved head.

After seeing the iCEnhancer mod photos below, I think most would agree that if a simple unpayed modder can do this, there is no reason why a huge studio like rockstar shouldn't have this as a PC extra that comes standard with the game. But rockstar develop for consoles so no chance. Lets hope the same guy continues with his modding for GTA5.

I preferred San Andreas than IV. Don't know why they removed a lot of the features that was in SA. Character customisation was awesome. Best character in IV was easily Brucie.

Based on seeing that building in the comparison still being under construction, where as the real world counterpart is complete, that can give us a pretty good timeline for when it's set, right?

Looks like they've opened up the world abit, but as much as SA? Guess we'll find out soon enough

frak: depends when the real building was constructed. Plus it's not a 1:1 LA representation obviously. Best indicator I reckon would be to look at how modern the cars look.
