The success of Rockstar's
Grand Theft Auto franchise is undeniable, and as part of a new Take-Two financial report we learn that collectively over 380 million GTA games have been sold over the years. With
Grand Theft Auto V leading the charge with close to 170 million copies sold.
In other Rockstar sales news
Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold over 45 million copies on its own, with the series (including the first game) selling over 68 million.
You can check out the full report here, which highlights all of the popular Take-Two and 2K properties. Interestingly there's a special mention of Max Payne making a comeback with Remedy right next to L.A. Noire and Midnight Club as key Rockstar IP. It'd be very interesting to see either of those make a comeback, especially after the recent remasters and VR ports of L.A. Noire.
Outside of sales numbers and franchise performance, there is one other interesting bit of info, and that comes with the development studio staff headcount for Take-Two and all of its studios. In 2022, that's now sitting at 6,042 people - which is a sizable increase even over 2020's headcount of 4,301.
As for the future, we do now that Rockstar is full-steam ahead on Grand Theft Auto 6 and 2K is cooking up the next installment in the BioShock franchise.
