As part of a new Game Informer deep dive into the upcoming highly anticipated God of War Ragnarök we got a look at the updated and revamped combat coming. The short gameplay clip features Kratos using his Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos to dispatch enemies and even grapple onto ledges.

The grapple mechanic in particular looks like a lot of fun, adding a dose of speed to the combat in the sequel. We also get to see a much older Atreus do his support thing, and get in on the action. Check it out.

The combat definitely looks faster than the first game's, with Lead combat designer Mihir Sheth describing it with a fun little food analogy. “That’s an internal philosophy that we’ve had since back in the day, Kratos plays with his food. We tried to create systems you want to engage with that are fun, very playful, lots of different routes. And when we looked at the combat in the last game, we were like, ‘We can push this further; we can find new toys and ways of playing with enemies and strategies.’ That’s been the guiding principle more than anything else.”
