Gatling Gears it the latest indie title to launch under Electronic Arts' EA Partners banner, a new downloadable title in the vein of the top-down shooters of the old arcade days, re-jigged for a contemporary audience.

The Amsterdam-based studio Vangard Games is comprised of the same ex-Guerilla Games (Killzone) staff that brought us last year's Greed Corp, which all sounds like a recipe for another arcade hit. Unfortunately however, it looks like this one falls short in a few areas. James has all the details in today's review.

Gatling Gears is now available on Xbox Live for Xbox 360. A PlayStation Network version is also imminent, but no longer dated -- likely dependant on when Sony manage to get everything back online.

Played a bit last night and I found it thoroughly enjoyable. It might start to drag in the later levels, I hope not.
