Making it the first game to ever do so - that is, a launch with full cross-play support. The action-RPG from developer Phoenix Labs is described by some as a take on Monster Hunter, albeit one that allows players use an Epic Account to play across PC (via the Epic Games Store), PS4, and Xbox One.
Here's the Dauntless launch trailer which showcases the heavily stylised visuals and some of the monster hunting action.
"After a year in open beta and a ton of great feedback from over three million Dauntless players, we're proud to bring our game to console and expand our PC audience through the Epic Games store," Phoenix Labs' Jesse Houston said.
"When we first started talking about 'One Dauntless,' we knew it was a truly audacious goal. No one has ever launched on console with full cross-play support from the start, but we believed in our vision and, thankfully, our friends at Epic Games, Sony, and Microsoft did too. Keeping the community connected is one of our top priorities, and with all the new players coming in at launch, there's never been a better time to be a Slayer in Dauntless."
Dauntless joins Fortnite and Rocket League as games that offer true cross-play. As a free-to-play title monetisation comes via cosmetic purchases and seasonal Battle Pass offers. Today's launch also comes alongside a major update to the game that reworks the campaign and several fundamental systems.
