Forspoken is a forthcoming third-person action-RPG from Luminous Productions and Square Enix where players take on the role of Frey, a New Yorker plucked from her life in the Big Apple and thrust into a fantasy landscape now harbouring witch powers.

There's a lot to take away from the above, most notably the fluidity of combat and game-world traversal, which honestly made us think of Bayonetta, only set in an open-world.

In particular, the action-RPG hybrid makeup here looks really well balanced, with a world beset by corruption, yet featuring havens for quests and rest and shopping, as well as a lot of opportunity for lore and NPC banter. The trick with these types of games is having fresh reasons for town revisits and character investment, and Forspoken genuinely looks to be on the right track with that aspect.

But we're probably most amped for the "magic-enhanced parkour" which witch looks really fun and fast. Definite Marvel's Spider-Man vibes, just with a clearly different set of tools in a totally different environment, but when you watch you'll know what we mean.

Forspoken is set to release in January of 2023 on PC and PS5. We'll have more on the game soon, so stay tuned.
