And these clues still haven't been formally decoded yet, according to our sources. Which means they're either deeply embedded and developer Far From Home is really good at hiding things, or not enough people are trawling through the impressive video reveal to seek answers. (Or maybe Far From Home has too much faith in humanity -- who knows?)
Speaking with AusGamers in a forthcoming interview, both the game's lead and studio co-founder, Andrzej Blumenfeld, and chief marketing officer, Pawel Jawor, were talking to a narrative mystery yet to be revealed while we discussed survival loops, gameplay hooks and handling narrative inside sandbox or open-world survival games.
"So there are many points that we wanted to address," Jawor says when we asked about what they were hoping to convey with the debut trailer and what mysteries lie in wait in the game. "There is a very important mystery also; what is going on under the dust? And once you're going to get there (under the dust), you may ask yourself another question: Why is it the way it is? And I'm sorry I'm being very vague here... but this is part of the 'game' with players, to be honest.
"We want them to actually have fun analysing those things," he continues. "[And] to be frank, we actually left a couple of little hints in our teaser and not that many people seem to have noticed. There are also hints hidden on our Steam page..."
We've had more than a handful of looks and so far haven't deciphered a lot, outside of the game having maybe a focus on the Earth's forests being missing. The pair also confirmed the movie The Martian as a key bit of inspo, as the kids say these days, alongside the Netflix exclusive, Annihilation. So maybe there's a bit more that can be pulled from those sources as well.
Stay tuned for our full interview feature from our chat with both Andrzej and Pawel shortly.
