Throwing players into a never-ending tussle for air dominance, World of Warplanes allows aircraft enthusiasts to pursue full-scale careers as virtual pilots, earning their wings in intense 15-vs-15 battles where supremacy in the air depends not only on a fast trigger ringer, but also coordinated teamwork. Wargaming is once again pushing for dominance over the field of simulators, but will they accomplish the success of World of Tanks?

Anyone looking for a game that involves flight and any strategy at all will be sadly disappointed. The game does have a certain je ne sais quoi about it which will make the decision for you, ultimately though, the best I can say is that it's free to play but don't pay until there is a server located in either a Australia or New Zealand.

Unlike most battles which are fought against what I call 'Stick in stomach disease' pilots (Battlefield style 'always pitching up at maximum G's' or in WT also known as LaLa 5/7 pilots ;) )
When flown with proper Energy Management, Throttle Control, Angles and ACM in mind by two half competent pilots the result is a smooth dogfight something like.
WoWP you don't get this kind of elegance:
I like this video. a WT friend + myself flying against each other. It has a good mix of controlling the fight in the high altitude and losing control in the low altitude encounter due to an erroneous maneuver and misjudgment of his Potential +/- Kinetic energy state. Probably would have overall lost this fight if the OP lalalala on my team didn't intervene :)

Can't wait to be in a tank, dodging enemy players in planes.

The LA's are just as bad, their primary problem however is lack of proper altitude performance modeled in the game.
Lavochkins for example should have hardly any power over ~13,000ft, by 20,000ft they should be falling out of the sky.
Lack of efficient turbo/supercharger meant they couldn't get to high altitudes.
Down low they were good so that's fine. But the plane is broken when you cannot beat it by the tactics which should beat it.
(Not to mention the I-16 and the LA's over-perform in regards to energy retention. They do not bleed enough energy through turns, they are light wing loading and they should bleed energy like a stuck pig especially for zoom climbing).
Currently LA's can climb to 40,000+ ft and whilst doing so out climb (and out run) virtually every other plane in the game which is silly.
War Thunder is still great, but unfortunately the few downfalls it does have is always an advantage for the Russian nation (surprise surprise), such as the LA's lack of their real-life weakness.
The good fights are always between USA/JAP/GER/BRIT.
All of those are balanced reasonably.
Good pilots think stick, great pilots think energy. Russian pilots don't need to worry about either :P
