The first review of Super Mario Odyssey, the spiritual successor to Super Mario 64 has been reviewed and awarded a perfect score by respected and long running magazine Edge. That perfect score? A 10. The issue, which is set to hit shelves around the world tomorrow, was spotted early by some keen magazine stand watchers that noticed the 10/10 score.
Here's a snippet.
After our
recent hands-on we were thinking that Super Mario Odyssey could very well be as amazing an experience as Super Mario 64, so this reaffirms that idea. And now we can't wait to delve into the full release.

GT, Galaxy, Skyward Sword, GTA4, HL2 - these are not 10/10 games. I'm not even sure Ocarina is. 9.5 sure, but 10? hard sell.

Seriously though, I agree with some of your other comments, but Ocarina was so easily a 10, I mean, it could have been a freakin' 11 if that were possible.

I'm fine with most of that list, but I haven't played them all. Was Rock Band 3 the pinnacle rhythm games? Was Little Big Planet that great a game? I know the Wii controls in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword were love / hate. But I think most of the other games on that list are pretty universally praised.

The good stuff in OOT doesn't happen until you pass the first four or five dungeons - and it's annoying to have to play through them every time, like a chore. That's why I don't think OOT deserves a 10 - because it can be not fun to play.
LttP doesn't suffer from that problem - the earlier dungeons are equally good and worth playing.

To me, for a single player game replayability is irrelevant. I'm not at all interested in playing single player games several times over, there are so many f*****' games these days - to go back and play it again after 30-40-50 hours is just not my cup of tea (maybe it's yours). That being said I have played OOT about 2-3 times, including the master quest mode.
It's a 10 in my book, it was a brilliant game.
